Seretide Diskus (Advair) is a combination antiasthmatic product designed for inhalation. It is utilized for foundational treatment of conditions that cause reversible respiratory obstruction, such as bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

 

Salmeterol Xinafoate belongs to a class of medications known as long-acting bronchodilators. It works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of the small airways in the lungs, which helps to open the air passages, making it easier for air to move in and out of the lungs. The effects of salmeterol xinafoate typically last for a minimum of twelve hours. When used regularly, it aids in keeping the small air passages open, which is why Salmeterol Xinafoate is referred to as a 'protector'. 

 

Fluticasone Propionate is part of a group of medications known as corticosteroids, often simply referred to as 'steroids'. These corticosteroids treat respiratory issues due to their anti-inflammatory properties. They reduce inflammation and swelling in the walls of the small air passages in the lungs, thereby alleviating breathing difficulties. Corticosteroids also help prevent asthma attacks, earning them the name 'preventers'. Regular daily use of fluticasone propionate is recommended.

 

Baseline therapy for conditions associated with reversible respiratory obstruction (including bronchial asthma in both children and adults) is indicated when a combined therapy approach is appropriate: for patients receiving long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonists alongside inhaled glucocorticosteroid therapy; for those experiencing symptoms while on inhaled glucocorticosteroids; and for patients regularly using bronchodilators who medically require inhaled glucocorticosteroid treatment.
